Today, while on our Birds and bears tour we had an excellent observation of a male Wallcreeper in Trigrad gorge, the best place to see that beautiful bird in Europe according to many birdwatchers.
The early morning didn’t look very promising as it was quite misty and cloudy. However it started to clear up quickly and by the time we have finished our breakfast and drove to the gorge it was sunny and clear. For about half an hour nothing special happened, except the patrolling flight of the local Peregrine male.
Then we have heard the beautiful whistling song of another male – the Wallcreeper! We soon located the bird, which was in its fresh winter plumage. It was feeding on the cliff face above us, flying on its butterfly pattern. After a few minutes the Wallcreeper descended to about 15 meters above us and stayed there about 15 minutes, allowing superb views, including through the scope, as well as few pictures, that proved not too bad. A beautiful day
